Russian official says hydrocarbons to dominate fuel use in 20 yrs
YEKATERINBURG, Jul 12 (PRIME) -- Oil and gas will predominate as the sources of energy in the next 20 years although their importance will decline as renewable power sources gain momentum, First Deputy Energy Minister Alexei Teksler said at a forum on Tuesday.
“The energy balance of the future will be shifted towards renewable types of energy in the first place. But the hydrocarbon part will not vanish in the next 20 years naturally as well. We realize that and understand that a vast number of people live with no electricity today,” Teksler said.
The official also said that oil and coal will lose their share in energy consumption.
“We understand that the population of our planet will increase by another 2 billion in the next 20 years. All these people as well as those who do not have access to energy now, will need it. Naturally hydrocarbons will dominate the energy balance in the upcoming 20 years, although the share of oil and coal will fall.”
